How to Use the AP Macroeconomics Score Calculator

The AP Macroeconomics exam measures student proficiency in national income accounting, aggregate demand and aggregate supply (AD-AS), monetary and fiscal policy, the Phillips curve, and foreign exchange markets. Section I consists of 60 multiple-choice questions completed in 70 minutes and accounts for two-thirds (66.7%) of your total composite score.

Formula and Calculation Methodology

Composite (Out of 90) = MCQcorrect + 1.5 × (FRQ1 + FRQ2 + FRQ3)
  • MCQ_correct: Number of multiple-choice questions answered correctly (0–60, worth 66.7%)
  • FRQ₁: Long free-response score out of 10 (weighted ×1.5 = 15 composite points)
  • FRQ₂, FRQ₃: Short free-response scores out of 5 each (weighted ×1.5 = 7.5 points each)

Section II gives you 60 minutes (including a 10-minute reading period) to answer three Free Response Questions worth one-third (33.3%) of your exam score: one long FRQ (worth 50% of the FRQ section) and two short FRQs (worth 25% each). Because drawing accurately labeled graphs (such as the Reserve Market/Ample Reserves, Loanable Funds, and AD-AS models) accounts for roughly half of all FRQ points, mastering graph shifts is the fastest path to a 5.
