Many medications are supplied as a liquid solution with a labeled concentration — for example, 250 mg/mL — rather than as a fixed-dose tablet. To draw up or administer a specific milligram dose, that dose has to be converted into the corresponding liquid volume using the solution’s concentration.
This is one of the most common calculations performed when preparing injectable medications, and small errors in either the dose or concentration values can lead to meaningful under- or over-dosing, so double-checking the label concentration before calculating is standard practice.

Why does the concentration matter so much?
The same milligram dose can require very different injection volumes depending on how concentrated the solution is — a more concentrated solution needs a smaller volume for the same dose, and vice versa.
