Why is the chance of getting a drop at 1x the drop rate only ~63%?

Because drops in OSRS are independent random events (binomial distribution). The mathematical limit of (1 - 1/n)^n as n approaches infinity is 1/e ≈ 36.79%. Therefore, roughly 36.8% of players will receive zero drops at exactly 1x the drop rate.

Does going dry increase my chance of getting the drop on the next kill?

No. Old School RuneScape drops use a memoryless Bernoulli trial. Every individual kill has the exact same baseline probability (e.g., 1/512) regardless of whether you have 1 kill or 5,000 kills (the Gambler's Fallacy).

How does bad luck protection work on bosses like the Desert Treasure II bosses?

DT2 bosses (Vardorvis, Duke Sucellus, Leviathan, Whisperer) require rolling the unique vestige drop 3 times before the actual item is awarded. This reduces extreme dry streaks and extreme early spoons.

What is considered the worst possible dry streak in OSRS history?

Players have reached 6x to 8x drop rates on pets (e.g., 30,000+ kills for a 1/5,000 pet). At 7x drop rate, the chance of going dry is only 0.091% (less than 1 in 1,000 players).

Can this calculator be used for Raids purples?

Yes. Simply input your average purple chance per raid (for example, 1 in 12 for an expert ToA run) and your raid completion count.
